HBCU Week x FOSSI STEM Scholarship supports high-achieving African American students with a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Its goal is to increase diversity in the chemical, manufacturing, and engineering industries by funding students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
This program not only provides financial support but also offers mentorship, leadership development, and internship opportunities to help students succeed in their STEM careers.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Be a senior in high school and plan to enroll full-time at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU).
- Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Intend to pursue a STEM-related degree.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Demonstrate leadership, character, and a passion for innovation in STEM.
Preferred Majors
Applicants pursuing majors in the chemical and engineering industries are especially encouraged to apply. These include:
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Computer Science
- Environmental Science
- Materials Science
- Industrial Engineering
- Chemistry and Physics
Ineligible Applicants
- Students who do not plan to attend an HBCU
- Students without U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
- Students pursuing non-STEM majors
Scholarship Benefits
Recipients receive up to $40,000 distributed over four years, plus:

Application Process
Applicants must complete the online application form and submit all required documents by the deadline.
Required Documents:
- Official high school transcript
- Letter of motivation or essay describing your passion for STEM fields and your career goals
- Proof of financial need (such as a FAFSA or equivalent documentation)
- Two letters of recommendation from teachers, mentors, or advisors
- After reviewing applications, shortlisted candidates may be invited to interviews before the final selection.
